Help me give my students a more exciting chemistry experience by participating in and viewing more demonstrations! These demos deal with electrolysis, acid/base chemistry, equilibrium, solutions, and electrochemistry.
My science students are taking chemistry and AP Environmental science and attend a rigorous arts and academics high school in New York City. They come from a variety of economic backgrounds and cultures.
They are excited to learn, but need chemicals and supplies for more in-class demonstrations.
In addition to our weekly labs, these demos will give us more opportunities for experiencing phenomena in the classroom.
My students are very talented and well-rounded. They are hard-working students who take pride in their art and their academics!
My Project
These materials will be used to introduce new topics in chemistry and solidify topics that we have covered already. For example, we discussed supersaturated solutions, but did not get a chance to see in real life what this means. Having the correct materials is crucial for this demo! We will also use batteries to perform electrolysis on water and create a graphite lightbulb. We will use one chemical to observe equilibrium, and how it is reversible.
A lot of what we do in class is hard to conceptualize without seeing.
After all, seeing is believing! Instead of watching videos on youtube of other people doing these experiments, we will do them in the classroom!
