Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are beautiful souls! Unfortunately, more than three-quarters of the students are from low-income households. Most of them get free or reduced-price lunches, and we send them off with snacks to eat over the weekend. They are sweet, innocent, and so eager to learn despite their home environment.
My classroom is a safe and caring place where opportunities and dreams are endless.
I want to create lifelong learners. My students love walking into my room because they know "we love books" in our classroom! Through literacy- learning to read, loving stories, and knowledge -doors will open for them. No one can take that away from them once we have planted that seed!
My Project
My first graders walk into my classroom daily with smiles on their faces and eager to learn. Making our classroom "home" a safe place where they can dream... become other characters, and visit other places like in their books. Experiencing the world through books and stories is what I want for my students.
My students can't afford to buy books to read for pleasure.
So to have a variety of read-along books- fiction and nonfiction, would be outstanding! We would be creating lifelong readers and learners. They would read and listen to the books on a CD player at our Listening Station. Many of my students crave reading informational text but can't yet. So having it read to them would be awesome! What a gift!
