This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
A critical needs school district in Mississippi, a place without the necessary supplies to prepare the students for college, this place is my classroom, filled daily with 9th and 10th grade English students.
I teach English to students with very small vocabularies. Each day, I strive to expose them to new words and new worlds; however, my quest is limited, as my classroom only has one dictionary and one thesaurus.
A classroom set of dictionaries will provide my students with the resources to build their vocabularies and discover new worlds, worlds that exist thousands of miles away from Mississippi.
Your gift will help my students build their vocabularies, so they too might be able to write like Shakespeare or speak like the President of the United States. You will allow them to dream big, as they will finally be able to picture the worlds the words describe.
