We have a very diverse classroom of learners. About 70% of our students are living in poverty with some students who are homeless. We have children of working families, and children of professionals and academics. About 45% of our students are learning English. Additionally, we have students who have significant, profound special needs. This amazing, diverse group of students joins together for learning each day. It is a joy to see such an amazing group of kiddos grow and learn together.
I want each child in my classroom to know he/she has value and is an integral part of our learning community. I want each kiddo to be able to find a crayon that shows their exact skin color, to see and hear a puppet that may seem familiar, to listen to a story and identify with the main character. The lessons and materials in this diversity kit are so very needed in today’s world. We all want to belong and this diversity activity kit will be an incredible complement to our classroom learning. I want my students to feel like they belong—because they most certainly do!
