My Students

"Dictionary is the only place that success comes before work. Hard work is the price we must pay for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you're willing to pay the price," said Vince Lombardi. My students are in need of dictionaries so that when they work hard they can do it correctly.

I teach the 6th grade.

My students come from various backgrounds. Their school is comprised mostly of students who receive free or reduced price lunch. Some of our students do not have basic personal items for themselves, and we work as a team to provide for these students. They are sweet and respectful students, but need to be shown love from their role models at school. They attend an elementary/junior high school that is made up of K-8th grade students. Our students struggle with getting supplies for everyday use and we struggle to provide manipulatives in the teaching of concepts due to a very limited budget.

My Project

I have five dictionaries in my classroom but they are 12 years old and are dilapidated beyond repair. My students are in need of some new dictionaries that will help them with spelling when writing. They also could use the thesaurus and vocabulary builders to enrich their vocabulary and descriptive language. These dictionary set would allow my students to learn to use reference books properly and will allow them to edit their papers.

What defines success?

Hard work and the right resources. If my students have the right resources, I am sure that they will work hard to meet our expectations to be successful writers.
