My Project

As a Young 5s/PreK teacher, my students need so much guidance, attention, and modeling to complete activities. They crave attention and when there are 12-15 of them and only 1 me, it is tough to get around to all students in a timely manner. Hands go up, kids begin to wiggle, and bodies squirm from left to right while waiting for me to arrive at their seats for help.

The kidney-shaped tables we are currently using make it tough for the kids to stay in a defined area of the table without intruding on a neighbor's territory, causing behavior issues.

The trapezoid tables in this project will give the kids 3 tables with legs and angles to define their workspace. Placing these tables angle to angle will give me the ability to reach several children at a time while I stand/sit in the middle area on the opposite side of the tables. The kids will be able to stay in their defined space, 2 to a table, decreasing behavior issues because kids are pushing others away or speaking in an unpleasant manner while in a social situation. Spatial awareness is tough at this age but these tables will help to foster the awareness the kids need to allow them to work in a more conducive environment.
