My school is rural, small, and community-centered. I teach 4K-8th grade general music and choir, which means I get to see and build relationships with every single student in the building. I am also working on my ESL license and will be teaching some Spanish/culture classes as well. This is only my third year teaching, but I am looking forward to seeing most students grow for over 9 years of their education! How exciting! One thing I love about my school is how community-centered it is and how families are really close-knit with the teachers, staff, and other families.
My students especially love to play instruments!
They light up when they walk in the room to see drums or xylophones out for them to play! One unique thing I particularly enjoy about my middle school students is their willingness to travel to nursing homes and the county special needs school to share music with other people! They are genuinely happy to be serving our community with music! With the addition of an ESL license and a new role with that, I am excited to bridge across the curriculum incorporating Spanish language, culture, geography, and music altogether!
My Project
Any musician knows that a great ensemble sound includes both low and high sounds. These bass bars will allow Orff xylophone and percussion ensembles to have a low bass sound. This will help the higher melody parts to really pop through.
Having these bass bars will help my students hear and understand low and high sounds.
They will also allow differentiation in the music classroom by allowing students to play something that is a little simpler than perhaps the main melody line in the music. Plus, they will sound really great!
