Help me give my students a deeper understanding of American History with this profound books. Children holding authentic text is key to deeper understanding.
Our town is an all American small town. We have students from rural upbringing and students from the city. In my class, I have students from means of prosperity and those who live with grandparents because parents are in jail, to multiple families living together to try to make ends meet.
However, when I walk into my classroom; I just see children.
I don't see their background or home life. I see hope, desire, and curiosity. I want my students to have opportunities that may spark a career or just understand how the world around them works.
My Project
Our district doesn't have the funds necessary to be able to purchase texts of any kind. The books that I have now are over 15 years old and are showing major signs of wear and tear. Many are losing pages which makes it hard to analyze and comprehend.
These are exciting books that will excite and engage my students in American History.
We are 1:1 computers and so the energy and money is spent there. While I feel preparing students to use technology is key for success in the world we live in, I also feel like there is a balance. I need authentic books to have students hold, read and learn from.
