Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Our classroom community is full of energy, curiosity, and hard work. My students often ask "Why?" because they are eager to learn more about the world. Their curiosity inspires me to bring more real-world experiences to the classroom.
These active learners are eager to engage through concrete and real-life learning experiences.
Students can benefit (and often need) concrete and real-life examples to help make math concepts come to life. They are eager to engage in hands-on activities to help them learn and grow.
My Project
This project is aimed at giving students tools to use to deepen their understanding of measurement and capacity.
By using project-based learning and real-life measurement tools and scales, students will deepen their understanding of measurement and capacity.
Students will start the unit off by making agua fresca as a class; they will measure using the appropriate tools and have guest speakers from the community come to class to show how to make and measure. Then we will enjoy the agua fresca as a classroom community. This will launch our unity on measurement and capacity.
Students will continue to use these measurement tools throughout the unit (and school year) to help deepen their understanding of measurement. The materials will live in our 3rd-grade classroom; however, they will be available to other teachers and grades to borrow.
