My Students

My students are in their second year of a dual language immersion program. They get the opportunity to learn the German language through the content areas of math, science and social studies. This is in addition to what they are learning in their English class, which they spend half of their school day in.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a greater number of my students are still working to master some of the foundational skills in literacy.

They are a vibrant group of students with the will to improve their reading.

My Project

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, many of my students are needing extra instruction with foundational skills of literacy. In particular, they are needing additional instruction in decoding new words.

In order to supplement the hands-on materials we have in our class, I am hoping to add engaging decodable texts to give the students continued practice in their reading.

Because these materials have beginner to more advanced phonics patterns, the various needs of my students will be met in small group reading instruction.

It is truly a reward to see students progress in their reading, but it is an even greater reward to watch them grow in confidence as they take ownership in their learning.
