Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
It today's schools shop class is a thing of the past. Students still have the desire to learn how to create something out of a pile of wood. In my classroom students get that experience by designing and building scenery and props.
In my county there are over 10 high schools, but none have the population like ours.
We are a title 1 rural high school. We have over 70% minority students. My students come from over thirty minutes away to attend their local high school. At our school we participate in high states testing- where the students have to pass several state exams in order to graduate. The stress and pressures that my students face on a daily basis don't just come from school, they also experience home lives that many of us wish would never happen. Through all of this my students continue to shine and reach the goals that are set for them. Through participating in an art program they find the inner strength that they didn't know was there. My students learn how to problem solve, how to meet deadlines, and how to work together as a team to accomplish a goal.
My Project
In my classroom my students will first learn what each tool and material is. They will learn how to use saws and screws, turn power drills on, how to change the battery, how to identify the differences and when to use it. After they have mastered the tools and materials they will begin to use this knowledge to build scenery for our spring play. They will they read the play then design the set then build the set. My students will get the opportunity to see their design come to life before them.
With these donations my students will have the tools needed to safely and efficiently build scenery.
My students lives will be change for the better because they will learn the life skills that young people today need. They will learn collaboration, real life math skills, problem solving and scheduling their time. All of these life skills will be able to be achieved by working on the project of building scenery.
