My Students
Students at our school come in with a love for the arts and a desire to become better artists. In the past, we have had survey classes in 3D art. Next school year, we will be changing our program to meet the growing needs and interests of our passionate art students by creating a ceramics class.
As a public school just outside of Detroit and a school for artistic minds, we have a very diverse and accepting population. Our Transgender Support Group, LGBTQ, and Feminist clubs all seek to empower our students and strengthen our school's sense of community. This is not just a school I would have loved to attend as a student, but one I feel privileged to attend as a teacher.
My Project
Students at our school love creating ceramic artwork. One of their favorite parts of the ceramic making process comes from the sense of finality and surprise they feel after seeing a glazed piece removed from the kiln. However, glazes are expensive and we often struggle to buy new ones once our supplies run out.
Ceramics is an art form which has been alive for centuries. At our school, it is one of the most popular majors. Students take pride in the creative and meticulously crafted work they create. Donations to this project will help keep our ceramics program alive because they will allow students to create finished pieces of ceramic art that they can be proud of.
