Help me give my students controlled decodable books! The S.P.I.R.E. decodable books will provide my students a lot of practice with specific phonic patterns so they can become more confident readers.
My rural school is striving to have all students independently reading at grade level. We are providing reading flooding to our primary students and I provide reading support to students in grades 2-5, who have not shown growth with the current interventions and have signs of dyslexia.
My heart goes out to these students who continue to strive to become better readers, despite how difficult it is for them.
These students have amazing attitudes, stamina, and do their best every day to become better readers. Although reading is difficult, they have fabulous strengths in the the arts, sports, music, and outdoors.
My Project
The S.P.I.R.E. decodable books will be used to provide small group instruction to striving readers. The books will provide the opportunity for students to have repeated practice on a particular phonics skill. Decodables will be used with students in grades 2-5 who have not responded to other interventions and show signs of dyslexia.
For students with signs of dyslexia, breaking the reading code is difficult and frustrated.
Decodable text provides students a controlled text where they can practice the skills they have already learned. New skills are slowly embedded in so that students can gain confidence in themselves as readers.
