My Students

Many of the students in my classes struggle with reading. They work diligently every day in an attempt to achieve grade-level reading skills. This is made even more difficult by the conditions in which they live.

Most of the students in my classes come from low-income homes and many are ELL students.

Because of their low level of reading, they don't enjoy the process and the struggle continues. My goal, Language Arts teacher, is to not only help my students achieve grade-level reading skills but also to help them develop a love of reading.

My Project

Reading can be a powerful tool in and out of the classroom, especially with wonderful pieces of literature such as Dear Martin. As a reading teacher, it is important that I find stories to which my students can relate.

Sharing stories like Dear Martin with my students helps them learn about the many racial inequalities people of color are facing in society today.

My hope is to give each student their own copy of the book to read and make notes in while they read. It is important that I have a class set because my students are learning from home due to the pandemic. Most of them do not have the means to purchase their own copy. Thank you for taking the time to read about our classroom needs! I know these books will be loved and appreciated.
