Hi everyone! I have a lovely bunch of students who are deaf and hard of hearing. They range from 3rd through 5th grade. One of our families is homeless and the others are struggling. Most of our students don't come to school with supplies, so I have to buy a majority of our classroom materials. We also don't have access to much funding for curriculum made for deaf and hard of hearing students.
Most of our students do not have parents that sign with them at home.
Therefore, our students are already behind by the time they come to school! They have to learn language, reading and writing all at the same time! Our students get easily frustrated and want to give up. I want to create an exciting classroom environment to keep them motivated and engaged! Please help support our classroom!
My deaf and hard of hearing students have limited access to deaf characters in books. Books like "Dina the Deaf Dinosaur" and "I'm Deaf and it's Okay" would get them excited and motivated to read! I want them to have access to deaf culture and positive deaf role models
With characters like "Dina the Deaf Dinosaur," my students will begin to have pride in themselves as deaf and hard of hearing people.
Please support our students as they strive to develop self-esteem and increase their reading skills! I can not wait to show you pictures of their smiling faces as they read books about deaf characters!
