My students need different sensory objects to use throughout the day. Many students get stressed out easily, or can't focus on a lesson without having some type of object in their hand to squeeze or feel.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 2nd grade students are ready to learn! The students coming into my classroom this year are coming from Latino, African American, Asian, and Caucasian backgrounds.
In our classroom, students will work and learn together, they will love and support one another.
Our classroom will be a safe and supporting environment for all students to come into.
Many of my students will be coming from low income households, where they don't have the opportunity to work with hands-on materials and tools, to help enhance their learning. With your help, my students will have the opportunities they've never had before.
My Project
The students in my classroom come from low income homes, which makes their lives outside of school very stressful and exhausting. When my students come into my classroom, I want them to be able to de-stress, relax, and feel comfortable. Many of my students find it very difficult to focus on lessons or directions because they are fidgety and are in need of sensory stimulation. The sensory balls, cubes, sand, and rings, will allow my students to squeeze and de-stress quietly and still focus all at the same time. The reading canopy will allow my students to have a quiet, closed in, safe, reading space to go to whether they want to read or just need somewhere to relax and cool down.
In our classroom, we currently have an essential oil diffuser to help calm and motivate my students.
We go through all the scents very fast, and they really help my students to calm down and feel at ease.
Another important aspect to my classroom is keeping it clean. As I mentioned earlier, my students come from low income homes, some even come from shelters. As you could imagine these homes are dirty and not healthy for the children. I make it my job to keep our classroom clean and fresh, so my students can know what it's like to live in a place that is clean.
I believe it's my job to not only educate my students on lessons like math, reading, and science, but to also educate them on how to be the best person they can be. They need to know how to be clean, how to treat themselves right, how to cope with stress, and how to relax. Their physical health is just as important as their mental health is.
