Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students live in a small community in Northeast Alabama. 68% of students at my school receive free and reduced-price lunch. Even though many of our students live at or below the poverty line, students and teachers at my school work hard to bridge the achievement gap. Students receive an education full of rigor and receive quality instruction from a vast array of trained professional educators. Our high school is committed to helping our students become successful global citizens in the 21st century.

My Project

Being able to provide experiences for students is essential to teaching students our nations history. It is easy to provide information, but being able to provide experiences enriches learning in the k-12 environment. The opportunity to explore Washington, D.C. is not an opportunity readily available to students in our school system.

Being able to go to DC helps our students connect history with rel-life experiences.

For the first time, some of my students will see places they have only seen on television or in magazines. Washington, DC is a city rich in our nation's history and the chance to explore it enhances educational experiences of my students.
