This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are preschool age children who learn best through hands-on activities using a variety of manipulatives. They live in the highest poverty rate zip code in Milwaukee. They deserve high quality materials in their classroom. I have been teaching at this school for 18 years and supply many of the toys and materials I know these young learners need. These preschoolers will learn core subjects using fun and engaging materials! My students and I are very grateful for this opportunity.
My Project
My students enter school with limited vocabulary skills. We use the dollhouse center to develop and improve vocabulary skills. Over the years, our dolls and furniture have become lost, worn down, or broken.
We need new dolls and dollhouse accessories to boost our vocabulary and language skills.
We will use these resources to interact with our friends, teachers and the environment. We learn about the members of our family and how they interact in a home environment.
It is especially important for my students to have storage containers to place the new resources in when not in use. I want them to develop respect for their school belongings and I want things that people generously donate to us to last for a long time.
