The students I am privileged to teach come from diverse backgrounds. Our school is in one of the highest poverty areas in our school district. Currently all of our students are receiving free breakfast and lunch through a grant for high poverty areas. Many of our students come from single parent homes and are often faced with the challenges of unemployment, domestic violence and poverty.
My current classroom is filled with busy little boys and girls eager to to explore and expand their knowledge with all that the first grade has to offer!
It is my goal to have successful; students with a true love of learning.
My students often lack the support they need at home to reinforce the learning that takes place at school. It is my goal to create a rich learning environment that encourages my students to become independent learners, while at the same time creating a community of parents and guardians that want to become involved with all their student is learning. I can do this by providing support and materials to aid them in helping their student.
My Project
This project will provide my classroom an aesthetically pleasing area to explore and engage daily in the activities that foster great new readers.
Having this special area designed specifically for activities that encourage active engagement in the process of learning the very foundational skills to become readers will be a great motivator.
Students who are engages and interested in their environment are more likely to remain engaged and actively participate in their learning. Creating this environment within my classroom will help make our classroom a place where students want to learn and also once they are readers our rug will provide us with a place to gather in our free time and center times, alone or with a friend and share a great book, game, or center activity.
