Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine growing up with food stamps as your only source of funding for food. You have to share a bedroom with two or three of your siblings. You may not always having power or running water. Despite the hunger or need for a warm bath, you show up to school every single day because you know that you will be fed, kept warm and safe, and loved. Not only that but you will also be given the opportunity to learn, and you're hoping to improve your life with that education. These are the types of students I encounter everyday.
My students look to me as a role model who they can count on to help push them toward achieving their goals both inside and outside of the classroom.
Despite the hardships they face everyday, my students have set high expectations for themselves that I aspire to help them meet.
This year has been especially tough for my students. Due to Hurricane Harvey and other inclement weather, we lost over two weeks of valuable instruction. Some of my students were without power and warm meals during that time. A few were even displaced. Hurricane Harvey affected each of them.
My Project
I am requesting a Brother All-in-One printer. This printer will be used to create and read scantrons for the sixth grade students at my school. Using the data compiled by the scanner, students will engage in self-assessment. My goal is to help students build awareness of their own strengths and areas of growth. They will be able to track their own progress using a visual representation of their results. My students will also have the opportunity to create a plan of action for themselves; they will discuss their plans with their classmates and me.
This printer will help ensure that students receive their data in a timely manner.
I will use these results to create interventions plans for my individual students. These results will also help determine the direction of my teaching and maximize the use of classroom instruction time.
In addition to informal assessments, these formal assessments will be used to monitor the progress of all students.
