This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are an innovative school located in and serving the students in a large urban school district. We have a magnet interest in the Environment and are working towards being STEM certified school.
Our students are capable, they are just often behind grade level because of moving, family struggles, poverty, and language barriers.
We work exceptionally hard at keeping students engaged in not just the ability to do, but the desire to understand why things work and how they can affect the world around them.
My Project
I am working in the building as a Computer Science teacher. We are working to develop skills through direct instruction and then moving to independent STEM station exploration learning. These stations will also graduate to use in our school's maker space as we develop STEM concepts across all disciplines.
The Dash and Dot robots will allow students to begin basic coding and program understanding with sequence goals and graduate to using multiple programs to develop more advanced tasks for their robot.
Dash and Dot are well suited to allowing students to progress through the process of coding while understanding now just what the robot will do, but why and how to manipulate it.
