Our students live in a rural community and our elementary school is small with around 240 students, K-5. Our school is lucky to have many families and community members who support our staff and school and are very involved in the education of their children.
Our students enjoy new challenges and usually come to school eager to learn (well, there are those pesky test days).
The kids get very excited to try new things especially our new 3rd and 4th grade STEM labs or any type of hands-on projects. Throw in technology and they are positively thrilled!
Through a local grant, our fourth graders were given a wonderful opportunity to have a small technology STEM lab two years ago, but we are trying to add additional elements to increase their skills and keep them working longer on each module. However, money is tight as we use our classroom budget to buy consumables like batteries and 3D pen filament for each new class of kids that use the lab. We have a Dash and Dot robot combination as one of our modules. The robots need some accessories.
These accessories will greatly help by diversifying the coding skills needed to use each of them.
The challenge cards list situations the kids may encounter and will help with problem solving. The ball launcher will make coding so much more engaging and challenge the students to launch the ball into different containers and learn about velocity, arc and many other scientific principles. The xylophone will allow the students to use their creativity to make songs and hear the robot play their musical score.
