I service approximately 375 sprightly, zealous, and hard-working students in my classroom. Many of my students are receiving free or reduced lunch and are non-English speaking or minority students. We have a strong classroom focus on problem-solving, 21st Century Skills, and Grit. We achieve this through PBL, STE(A)M, and Applied Learning activities. My wish is to provide them with all of the visual and hands-on opportunities that they crave and deserve in order to foster a strong and deep lifelong desire to learn and be successful in their future endeavors.
My Project
In my 4 years of teaching Gifted Education, I’ve seen many curricula focuses and ideologies about what we should teach come and go, but the use of robotics and coding in the classroom has proven to be a consistent and critical way to teach and move students into the 21st Century and develop skills needed to prepare them to be valuable members of the community and job market both locally and globally.
"Whether we're fighting climate change or going to space, everything is moved forward by computers, and we don't have enough people who can code.
Teaching young people to code early on can help build skills and confidence and energize the classroom with learning-by-doing opportunities."
- Richard Branson (Founder, Virgin Group)
When using Dash and the Tablets, the students will have the opportunity to practice problem-solving, creative and critical thinking skills while learning to code, a skill that will certainly serve them well in future endeavors.
