This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 1st grade at a Title I neighborhood school. My students are full of energy and excited to learn daily. I love all the questions that they ask. The majority of my students are from low-income backgrounds with limited access to technology and other educational resources. Although my students have challenges, they are always happy and willing to learn. They are my motivation.
My students are very creative and think outside the box.
They are sharp. My students can spot a problem and quickly try to solve that problem. They enjoy engaging hands-on activities. They absolutely love working with interactive learning games. My students also enjoy activities that involve movement and singing. Movement and hands-on activities help my students to stay focused during whole group and small group lessons.
My Project
Dashing Into Coding will introduce students to engineering, basic electronics, and computer science. Coding with Dash and Dot robots will help empower students by giving them tools to consume and create content. Dash and Dot robots makes learning fun. Learning to code will help build confidence and increase student participation. Students will develop communication, storytelling, problem solving, critical thinking, and collaborative skills.
Learning about coding will help prepare students for jobs that will be in high demand in the future.
Coding with Dash and Dot robots will help students learn about cause and effect by safely taking risks and failing forward. Working with Dash will provide students with a fun meaningful learning experience and promote innovation.
