Help me give my students the chance to learn coding and robotics with Dash Robots.
With Piper Computers, our students will learn the importance of circuitry and electricity.
Our students come from a low socio-economic rural community, but they are bright, motivated and eager to learn. Our enrollment is approximately 650 and includes a wide variety of special needs spectrum students. Our students use the library media center as a means to engage with literacy and STEM/STEAM/STREAM activities.
The library is not only a hub of information and literacy, but a platform for branching out to STEM/STEAM/STREAM opportunities and projects.
Our students want to take their knowledge to a new level and the library media center can help them achieve their goals.
Since there is not a readily available library within 25 miles of the community, we serve as the only outlet the students have for gathering information.
My Project
Since Covid-19 has affected our school routine and schedule, as the librarian, I will visit classrooms this year. This will give me a perfect opportunity to teach coding using Dash robots. We will begin with coding basics using blockly systems and once they masters basic concepts, move to more advanced challenges. If we move to remote learning, I will use Google Meet and Google Classroom to facilitate our learning. I will be able to present coding challenges to the students and they will be able to complete these challenges through virtual meetings.
Our students will now have the tools necessary for meaningful engagement in robotics and circuitry.
With Piper computers, students will have hands on experience with the inner workings of computers by building their own. With these products our students will gain valuable experience in the ever changing world of technology. However, if we move to remote learning, our students can still engage in virtual learning by video sharing. They will still be able to view the inner working of a computer and give directions on how the parts and pieces are put together.
