My students need two Dash Robots and challenge cards to enhance and build upon their coding background. Dash will be integrated into multiple subjects in our classroom!
This year in my 1st grade classroom I have 17 little learners! The school year has just begun and I can’t wait to jump right into some fun hands-on projects with my students.
The joy of teaching young learners is that you can really see excitement when they are learning and having fun!
I want to provide my students with opportunities to have fun, engaging lessons that build their critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and creativity. STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) and coding can help achieve that by allowing students to get hands-on in a way that is so common and familiar to them in the world today, which can significantly advance their learning. Using STEM and coding more often in the classroom is my goal this year for my students!
My Project
Student's love getting their hands on technology, but robots really spark a child's interest! I know it definitely sparks mine! When people think of technology they think of a computer or an iPad, but it can be so much more! What we do on the computer or iPad is what really matters. Students need screen time that is valuable. It should help them learn, think, problem solve, collaborate, etc. Dash is a fun way to accomplish that.
I think the reason that technology is so fun and entertaining for kids is that there is always something new.
When kids do the same things repeatedly, they will eventually get bored. Dash is going to be new and exciting for the students and they will get to use them in so many ways. Students can work on coding skills, while also integrating math or reading by coding to go to specific places on a large game board and completing the task that they land on, building obstacle courses to conquer, following task cards to complete challenges and so much more!
When we make learning fun for students, we can never go wrong. If we can keep their attention they will learn, and they will want to keep learning!
