My Students

I teach in a small rural town in the middle of Wyoming. Many of my students come from farming or ranching families and have to spend more than an hour on a bus each day.

My first and second-grade classroom is filled with bright, inquisitive, active learners who deserve the opportunity to work with the latest technology to keep them engaged in learning.

They are so excited every day to try new things. I can't wait to see their faces when they see their new learning tools.

My Project

Our elementary school is implementing new computer science standards this year and my kiddos are loving it. We share a computer lab with the other elementary classes so we have limited access to personal computers. My classroom has two iPads and one Dash robot, but it is very hard to "share" one robot between 16 children. The addition of two more robots would allow us to work in smaller teams. Cooperation and teamwork are skills that we continually work on.

These Dash robots will engage my students and help prepare them for the 21st century.

Using an iPad, the children learn to code by directing Dash to move, flash its lights and make sounds. The set of included challenge cards will help develop perseverance and problem-solving skills.
