I am the school library media specialist at a low-income school. Our students come from diverse backgrounds and home environments. My goal is to provide our students with varied learning opportunities to help them become college and career ready.
Our media center is the heart of the school.
Students visit the media center during lunch to read quietly, complete classwork, or participate in makerspace activities. I would like to provide Marley students with the opportunity to learn coding, 3D design, robotics, and more. However, purchasing the technology needed can be expensive! With the materials provided by this project, I will be able to introduce my students to new technology. I will also be able to encourage more multidisciplinary projects as I work with their teachers to connect technology to all subject areas.
My Project
The students have a choice to visit our media center during lunch. Having exciting technology like the Dash and Cue Robots here for the students to use at lunch will help draw more students to the media center. These programmable robots are a fun way for students to be introduced to coding and robotics.
My students desperately need to be exposed to coding.
Learning how to code will help my students gain valuable 21st-century skills that can be used in a future career. Coding improves creativity, problem-solving, and persistence which are all skills our students can work on. Student of all skill levels will build their knowledge with Block, JavaScript, and Wonder.
Once the students are familiar with the robots the possibilities are endless. Students can review key vocabulary terms and math concepts using the robots. Dash and Cue can help make learning fun and engaging!
