This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
I am new to the music classroom, and I have already discovered that what I love about preK and Kinder learners is they love to MOVE! They are excited about music and can't wait to move with the steady beat. The books in this project will help me learn more about how children explore music naturally through movement and how to create a culture of community around music.
Students will use brightly colored ribbons and scarves to experience free movement while listening to a variety of music genres from around the world.
This gives children the opportunity to "feel" the beat and experience the music in a personal and creative way long before they learn to create music. In addition, the CD activities will help me to facilitate guided movements with the ribbons and scarves, which will improve control of locomotor skills and nurture the skill of following a conductor. Diverse music, bright colors, and MOVEMENT! It's the perfect combination for my youngest musicians.
