The dance students at my school are a diverse bunch of students with interesting, imaginative, and exciting ideas about life they wish to share.
These dance students are a creative group who deserve the high-end materials to match their highly imaginative choreography.
We are often unable to purchase all of the materials we want for performances or for daily classes, including various types of technology. Our students come from a variety of economic backgrounds and our district is unable to fund projects beyond the most basic needs for classrooms.
My Project
As a public school dance program, our dancers learn about all different styles of dance including ballet, West African, jazz, modern, and one their favorites, Tap.
The dancers at my school love to learn and practice tap dance, but without enough shoes for every student it is hard for them to get the full experience of this genre of dance.
We often have to borrow shoes (if someone has them) or wear tennis shoes, which does not allow students to fully experience the musicality and rhythm that tap dance provides. Some students have the means to purchase tap shoes, but their specific nature makes them more expensive than the regular shoe. By having a class set of tap shoes, we can always be sure all students in all classes get to experience tap as it was meant to be.
