Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are energetic and amazing kids from the south side of Chicago. Most of the kids I teach are faced with challenges in their lives, both at home and at school. As their music teacher, I hope to help my students by encouraging them to express themselves in positive ways.
My students love music class because they get a chance to share a creative experience with their peers.
Our school is run on a bare bones budget, and funding for the arts is just not there. Your donation would help to provide a quality musical experience for deserving students.
My Project
Remember Dance Dance Revolution? For arcade-goers of a certain generation, it would be impossible to forget. This was the first video game that got kids up and moving. DDR became a lifestyle that motivated even couch potato gamers to get active, and in many cases, lose weight! This is the game that will inspire my students to get healthy in the new year. We are requesting dance mats and video games that will get them exercising in a fun way.
In addition to having fun and losing weight, playing Dance Dance Revolution will help reinforce rhythm skills learned in music class in a fun way.
Players of the game often have no idea that they are stepping out eighth notes in perfect time with the music, but that is what it takes to win! After playing DDR, students' inner sense of rhythm will be much improved, which will transfer over to when we play instruments in class.
After playing a round of this game, my students will be sweating, raising their heart rates, and having a great time.
Please help me give my students this experience. Kids love video games, and this one will help them get active in the cold winter months. They will have a blast!
