My students come from a small town and come to school each and every day excited to learn all they can in Music class. Our school has a wonderful sense of community where the adults and students take care of each other like family.
One of the most authentic places to experience this thriving community is in Chorus!
When students reach 4th Grade, they have the opportunity to join Chorus and/or Band. Students are not forced to take part in these special ensembles, yet we repeatedly have over 75% of the grade volunteer to join! In addition, I have an advanced, auditioned group of 20 that meets after school every Friday to rehearse.
The gym where we hold our concerts is ALWAYS packed with smiling faces, and even the balcony above the gym. It can get noisy given the many excited children and families in a space where sound carries. As such, it is difficult for the Chorus, and particularly my small Advanced ensemble, to project their sound above the ambient noise. My goal is to give my students the best platform and tools to share their gifts with those that matter most in their lives!
My Project
Who can forget the moment from the movie Big, where Tom Hanks starts jumping and moving on that giant piano! I want my students to have that same experience! I am requesting 5 more large replicas of that iconic piano for an upcoming unit involving moving and grooving while learning to play the piano! My last project of 5 was so gratefully funded, but to keep more kids active, for more time, I would like 5 more!
Being active is not only for Recess of PE, my students are going to be moving and grooving as they are learning to play the piano keys!
These pianos will help my students be active and having fun while learning to play the piano. These pianos will give my students the opportunity to learn the piano keys incorporating all of the different learning styles!
