This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
It's hard to find words to describe my students. Napoleon Hill once said, "Strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle." I find myself marveling at how much strength and resilience my students have. Despite the struggles that life has put upon them at such a young age, they persevere on their quest for new knowledge. My students amaze me.
As a Fine Arts Teacher, I have the honor to educate every student in our school which includes grades K-5.
I see general education students, special education students, ELL students, students that may be homeless, and more, and they are all brilliant in various ways. The neighborhood around them is ever-changing; however, our school remains a constant strength in their lives.
My Project
Did you know that team building and cooperative learning are some of the most important life skills you can learn? That's why we are starting a dance team at our school. 50 students have taken it upon themselves to come together to be our school's first dance team. My amazing students are very talented dancers but have no resources to start their team. They need dance attire and dance props to start them off. They have been fundraising but have not earned much money.
I would like to use movement and dance to support intellectual, emotional, and motor functions.
My students need an outlet to express their emotions. I would also like to teach them that dance can be a very therapeutic way to cope with the problems that surround them. The dance team will also perform with our recently formed band. My amazing students are very talented dancers and I am excited to start a dance team at our school.
