My dance classes are my favorite classes to teach because my students are motivated and they really seek to push themselves to the limit. They are a talented bunch of creative young people who inspire me every day.
They have an incredible ability to soak up choreography like a sponge and their group dynamic is very caring and compassionate.
My students are eager learners who are diverse culturally and socioeconomically.
Our school is a college preparatory high school in Southern California with a rigorous curriculum that is highly demanding. Students are expected to rise to the occasion academically despite social and financial obstacles that they may face. Our school is designated as a low socioeconomic status, and we are deemed a Title I school.
My Project
Because of the rigorous core curriculum at our school, I find myself incorporating literacy into my own dance curriculum. Writing and dance you say? YES! Students in dance write in my class. My students need ink so that we can print and submit their work successfully. I hate to spend our valuable and limited funds that we typically use for costumes and production fees on paper and simple supplies for the classroom. Additionally, I print promotional materials for our dance productions using the color ink from our Ricoh printer. This helps us reach out to the community and share our love of dance with others.
Please consider donating to our classroom so that I can promote literacy in the dance room and continue to foster my students' creativity.
We truly appreciate any amount that you can contribute as we truly want to conserve our limited funds for costumes and choreography. Thank you, in advance, for your generosity!
