Do you remember that first book that made you fall in love with reading? The story that allowed you to escape into another world for a moment, the biography that gave you new goals and dreams, or the recount of information so riveting that you just could not wait to learn more? My students are thoughtful, imaginative readers and learners, and are excited to read books of all genres inside and outside of our classroom walls.
Students at my school come from diverse backgrounds and cultures and have a wide variety of reading levels, interests, and educational needs.
My ELA classroom will serve as an essential resource for children who need access to different genres and styles of writing to help them grow as students and young citizens of our global community.
My Project
Although our world has shifted into a new digital age, the writing process still involves putting pencil to paper. Whether it is highlighting evidence, brainstorming ideas, or simply doodling characters to make the next best comic book, writing involves both mental and physical creativity.
When my students use highlighters, they will be identifying important text evidence that helps them to make inferences and larger connections.
When my students collaborate with whiteboards and markers, they are brainstorming stories and having meaningful dialogue that was so missed in this year of distanced learning. When my students add remarks to whole class charts, they are showing what they know within a classroom community.
