My students need a wardrobe to fold and hang clean laundry, dental kits for oral hygiene, and hand-soap to practice important daily living skills that they need as adults.
Hi friends! The students in my classroom are young adults age 19-22. Our magnificent class focuses on helping students with mod/severe disabilities learn transitional skills to become their most independent and successful selves as they mature into adulthood.
What makes our classroom special is the way we integrate technology to make the curriculum accessible to all students.
All of my students depend on assistive technology to reach the goals and dreams that they have for themselves. Technology is such a gift to my students. It allows them to access mobility, gives them the ability for expressive speech, and more.
On the same token, technology is always advancing. It is up to us to keep up. In an urban school district that is always struggling to provide funding, it is imperative that we raise funds in other ways to pay for the tech items that we so desperately need. Thank you for your time!
My Project
In a Transition Program that serves over 150 adult students who have moderate/severe disAbilities, part of our curriculum is teaching our students how to tend to their daily-living needs independently. This includes teaching them to care for their personal oral hygiene, wash their hands/face, fold/hang/take care of their own clean laundry, and more. Personal hygiene items included in this project are a bulk order of dental kits (toothbrushes and toothpaste), a bulk order of personal hand soaps, and a bulk order of lotion. This project also includes a wardrobe, perfect for teaching students to fold, hang, and take care of their clothing.
By donating to this project, you will be giving my students the gift of independence.
The more they can do for themselves, the more autonomous and self-reliant they can be. Self-care is a very personal thing, and these students deserve the opportunity to care for themselves with dignity and respect.
