My students come from hard working families which reflect in the classroom as my students are very kind, polite, and hardworking. I have a very diverse group of students in my class. My students are diverse in the way that they: come from different socioeconomic backgrounds, different cultures, are at all different academic levels, and have all different learning styles. With that being said, my students require and deserve differentiated instruction to accommodate all of their individual needs.

In our classroom, we also discuss the difference between equity versus equality and believe in providing students with what they need to succeed. While it is very important to me and to my students' education that I do provide differentiated instruction, it can be challenging being a new teacher and having limited resources. I want to do my best to ensure that students have what they need to achieve and even exceed their goals in first grade!
My Project
My students need a set of individual white boards to help support and improve student leaning. We use white boards almost everyday for phonemic awareness and phonics. The white boards are also often used for math and choice time.
Individual white boards will allow my students to practice blending, segmenting, spelling, and reading.
The white boards are so engaging for students; they LOVE using them! The boards are also extremely beneficial to students' learning. White boards give students the opportunity to think individually, make/fix mistakes, and practice their skills.
Being that I am only a second year teacher I have acquired many used boards but it is time to retire them. Majority of our boards are damaged (broken/written on) or are covered in dry erase maker that will no longer erase. Being that we are running low on dry erase markers we currently use the markers up until the point where there is no longer any ink coming out. We are in great need of these materials and I know my students would be ecstatic and so appreciative if you supported our project.
