My Students

I work on a team that serves special needs and at-risk high school students. We have a wide range of student abilities that span from intellectually disabled to those that are in general education classes, but at-risk of not graduating.

My Project

Our students operate a coffee shop within our school called, The Daily Grind. The coffee shop serves both hot and iced coffee, healthy smoothies, and cookies. Students with the support of adults, develop and test all recipes, calculate calories and unit prices, manage inventory, and track sales and costs of all items sold in the shop.

Obtaining an iPad to use specifically in the coffee shop would enable students to use the Square app to keep track of revenue, expenses, and inventory in a manageable way.

The Square app allows students to track transactions, make sure the cash in our money box reconciles with the amount of money through sales recorded in the app. The Square app is visual and user-friendly which supports students across all learning levels. In addition, students can use the Sling app to schedule work shifts and receive email reminders of their scheduled shifts.

An iPad could also be used to help students send out pre-order forms to students and faculty. Students can also use the iPad to do research on using credit/debit cards, future product development, nutrition facts, and advertisements for the shop through our social media outlets. Using an iPad will help us expand the products we offer as well as our customer base.
