This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with an amazing group of students in my cross-category classroom. They range from grade 3 to 5, and all have their own unique personalities and talents, as well as their own particular needs and academic goals to achieve. We work in daily rotations with small groups and utilize many different interventions to assist students during the times they work independently. Some of my students need additional assistance, such as help with their reading confidence, and determining the purpose in their reading. They have access to a variety of genres of books, articles, and magazines. I want to make a change and provide a new intervention for my students who struggle the most with reading confidence.

With a set of Whisper Phone Headsets, my students who are building their reading fluency can hear their own progress as they focus on hearing individual phonemes that they produce when they are practicing reading or working in their reading groups.

In addition to the Whisper Headsets, my inquisitive students also love to experiment with sensory items and math manipulatives. With the storage containers, I can organize small groups of sensory items for stretch break times and math tools for interactive use with lessons. I particularly look forward to my students mastering their place value skills and enjoying the times I send them to work independently. Other items such as the easel white board would be an amazing tool for small group lessons, especially since it can be used for not only writing, but also for letter tile use as well since it is magnetic. Even the mini erasers will be an amazing addition as my students have many activities that include dry erase markers use. My emphasis is independence, and I feel that these items would be a huge benefit to all!
