My students are among the smartest, brightest, loving and most inquisitive students out there! I have the privilege of teaching kindergarten! Each child enters my room with a different story and background, and my job is to bring them in as my own and create a loving and safe environment for them to learn and grow. My classroom is full of 25 enthusiastic, engaged kindergartners. They come to school eager to learn new things every day. We are constantly pushing forward to meet curriculum guidelines and benchmarks.
My Project
My kindergarten students are full of energy and are excited about learning. They need repetition and hands-on exploration to discover new concepts. Having a choice in their center time will be motivating and allow the students to take control of their own learning. Plus, the students get to choose something that interests them, or that they feel they need to practice. Learning and practicing early literacy skills, and having the time in a small group with peers, is important for young students. Word Work will be critical, and the products I am requesting are practical, and will also be engaging to the students. The students will have access to a variety of materials to practice beginning reading skills. A student may choose magnetic letters to practice spelling sight words, high-frequency words and/or spelling with word families. Another might choose alphabet stamps to practice writing the word and then stamping it. While another may want to build sight words using a Lite-Brite board.
The goal is to have the students practice literacy skills like identifying letters and sounds, sounding out CVC words, as well as learning to read using different activities - magnetic letters, letter snap cubes, magic boards, sight word puzzles, alphabet stamps - and more!
These high quality activities are ready to go, colorful, and will be valued by my students - and me! "Word Work" will quickly become their favorite center. I can already see their happy little faces!
