This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach third grade at a title one school. This year I have 16 boys and 11 girls, they are a busy and talkative group! I love their enthusiasm for learning. Half of them are reading below grade level, so it is my goal to fix that this year! I have five English language learners, two receiving Special Education services, and 4 with ADHD. I feel that hands on learning with regular transitions will be beneficial for this active group!

My Project

The large carpet will give everyone a specific place to sit during our classroom time on the carpet. There will be no confusion about where to sit so everyone can see during whole group instruction and phonics practice. It will also add a colorful and cozy feel to my classroom! The magnets will give them a fun and engaging way to practice their spelling words during the “Word Work” portion of our Daily 5 Rotations. My students struggle to find the time outside of school to practice their spelling words, so we allow for daily practice in our classroom rotations.
