Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I have 88 students that share one torn copy of a dictionary, it has no cover and is missing sections A through C. I teach 7th grade English at a high needs school in The Bronx...and when I say high needs, I mean it- 82% of our students are eligible for free lunch.

My students are great, they know how to use a dictionary and thesaurus and they very rarely complain about having to share one torn reference book...until it's time to look up a word that begins with "B". We don't have the right supplies, we don't have enough supplies, and we don't have the money to get new supplies.

Our request is simple, a classroom set of dictionaries to help improve the reading and writing skills of our students. Not only will these supplies help students with English class, but these books will be available to my students at all times. In addition, having access to these books will allow me to teach my students how to correctly use these books!

We have no computers, no Internet access, and no hope that this will change anytime soon, but with your help my students can cultivate a love of words that they are already developing.
