Hello! I teach Academic Intervention Services to students in grades K-5.
I encourage my students to know that they are readers, “Today a reader, tomorrow a leader.” -Margaret Fuller.
Our rural elementary school in upstate New York has a student population of 350 student. Students who are at risk of failing the New York State Assessments and students who are having difficulty academically are recommended to receive Academic Intervention Services. That's where my room comes into play.
My students are hardworking and imaginative young learners. They strive everyday to improve all areas of their literacy deficiencies. My students are all very eager to learn and love coming to school. They are independent, hardworking and compassionate.
My Project
My students need the basic CVC materials and manipulatives so that they too can discover the wonderful world of reading. I have selected a great range of CVC language builders, hands on dice, puzzles, word sliders and card sets for students to use and practice while here in the reading room. Students who are at risk of failing the New York State Assessments, and students who are having difficulty academically, are recommended to receive Academic Intervention Services. That's where I come into play! Despite teachers' best attempts to make reading fun, reading has become boring and uninteresting for many children. They have little or no desire to pick up a book to read. It is up to educators to help our students discover the wonderful world of reading. Currently I work with students from Kindergarten-5th grade. Supplying the right type of materials for such a wide age span can be very difficult. That is where Donor's Choose comes to the rescue!
