Nelson Mandela believed, "Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world". As a teacher in a high poverty, low income, and increasing crime rate school district, I too agree with Mr. Mandela. My students face many challenges in and out of school. Despite the challenges they face daily, I am looking to ensure a fun, creative, and impactful learning experience.
My students love to dance, they love to read, and they really love to come to school.
Many of my students are being raised by family members other than their parents. Those who are fortunate to live with their parents are living below the poverty rate. These factors may prevent them having the life experiences many of us see as "typical". I want to continue to create a safe place where my students are encouraged to reach their fullest potential and grow. I may not be able to control their lives at home, however, I can control their experience at school. By providing a creative and fun learning environment, it is my hope to ensure my students reach their academic potential and dream bigger than their present circumstances will allow them to imagine!
As a teacher it is my job to tap into my students' creativity. This year, one of our primary focuses is writing. What's a good story without a great illustration? As I teach my students the format of a great story, I want to focus on the strategy, visualization. Teaching my students to create pictures in their minds as they write is phenomenal!
Imagine having each student bring an image to life from their story .
. . just the thought gives me goosebumps. Pictures help the author tell the story in a unique way. The Cricut will assist in helping my students create the cover of their books and provide a different way to illustrate.
