My Students

My students come from a small rural town in southwest Ohio and I love that for many, what I teach them in the classroom will be new experiences for many of them. Even though they have made it to the teenage years and middle school for most of my students they haven't traveled much more than 20 miles away from their hometown.

While many of them face challenges in their home, they come to school each day with a smile on their face and an eagerness to learn.

A majority of my students live in what is identified as low income homes. The fact that they show up each day is a victory. For some, they may be first generation high school graduates.

My Project

A big component in my family and consumer sciences curriculum is community service. Together with the National Honor Society Chapter in my school my students will use these scissors in this project to cut the fabric that will then be used to make Tie-Together-Blankets. The students will cut the fabric, tie it together to make blankets. These blankets will be made by students in classes through out the entire school. Once created they will be donated to organizations in the community to donate to families in need. These scissors are the first step in building a stronger more caring community within our school.
