Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Students

My students are the elementary school students of south Memphis! Since this is their first school, they have never had a school library before. They can't wait to have more time and space to celebrate reading. They also love to dance, learn, sing, and grow veggies in their brand new learning garden.

My KIPPsters are super bright and curious, and deserve to have the best.

In my definition, the best means having a beautiful library inside every school they ever attend.

My Project

KIPP Memphis is opening another library for our elementary students, and they need comfortable and exciting seating to get them pumped about reading! Our garden theme is inspired by President Barack Obama's national portrait, and this new library will feature plant-like furniture and similar murals of famous children's authors of color who represent our students and their communities. This giant soft seating, in the shape of a cartoon snake, is pretty much perfect. (Seriously, Google it).

When we create beautiful spaces for our students read, they know how much we care.

That is why we want them to have this absolutely adorable and ridiculous giant snake seat! This flexible seating will make for a very special place to read and relax, and it also works wonderfully as a carpet area for story time.

We are thrilled we could find soft seating so perfect for our new library, but we need your help to go the extra mile for our students. It is not within most school budgets to buy a giant snake seat, but we feel all students deserve to have them--or whatever colorful, joyous, and soothing seating that inspires children to read and grow.
