Help me give my students pencils, pens, and notebooks to experience journal writing in each subject area, this is the area of largest expense and well worth the investment as they continue to learn by reading and writing,
My students are Autistic with disabilities ranging from Intellectual to Extreme Emotional. We are in a Self Contained Classroom for most of our school day.
We are very close , like a family away from home so of course we experience many different issues and situations.
We experience many interesting subjects, including People and Communities which the students love. Presently we are discovering North Carolina, specifically our hometown Hickory.
Our classroom family presently consist of four girls and two boys who really care for and look out for one another. One of the students made a quote that we decided to put on the bulletin board. He wrote "This Class is Custom Made". I couldn't agree more.
My Project
We will use these materials for all reading and writing and coloring projects as students often finish a lesson by drawing and or coloring, bringing their papers and projects to life. We have studied plants, landforms, and the water cycle where students were able to use this type of material. Autistic students need to use materials that are hands on to develop their sensory and mobile skills. The students come from economically challenged backgrounds and often do not have the supplies necessary to enhance their learning experience. Having supplies on hand makes all the difference in our classroom.
