My students are the best! (Although I am sure every teacher says that...) I serve students in a semester long ELA classroom. So each semester I have 90 new faces so eager to learn about all my favorite canonical authors (not!) But by the end of the semester, we form a family, and they hate to leave. I also teach Creative Writing, and thankfully, those students return year after year for elective courses. The students I serve are 30% SpEd, 70% Reg Ed; 30% Seniors, 60% Sophomores, 100% driven.
My students love to collaborate and work in groups, But our school lacks the resources to give students the best (or even mediocre) equipment for collaborative learning.
So here I am, hoping to bring the best into my classroom because these kids deserve it. My goal is to get rid of the "Arlington National Classroom" style furniture and bring these kids future-forward furniture to help them build collaborative skills in a more collaborative setting.
My Project
"Cushions for Our Tushes" provides a variety of flexible seating options for students. Converting our classroom from cumbersome rows of desks to movable stools, chairs, and sofa style seating allows students to excel in a "coffee shop" style environment.
Students will be able to move about the room, choosing the seating option that helps them be the most successful.
Students who fidget will benefit from fidget stools. Students who like space to work can use the sofa to spread out. Students who are too large (like me) to fit in the traditional desks can use any of the seating options to feel welcome and be comfortable through our 90 minute classes.
