My students need pipe and drapes as a backdrop for their recitals. We do not have an auditorium and use the gym for our performances, so we need these curtains to provide a backstage area.
UCA is the only middle school in Randolph County to offer dance as an elective option! This is the second our school has had dance, and our students and parents have truly been amazing! There are now 60 students in the dance program here at the middle school, and we have now grown our program up through the high school!

Working at a STEAM project-based charter school, I get to witness so many children flourish in environments they wouldn't typically get in a traditional school.
Our students come from many different counties across the triad as well as having many different backgrounds and ethnicities. We have 24% on free and reduced lunches. However, the students at our school are extremely close and like a family. They support each other's development and push each other to be better. It's sweet to watch them grow as dancers together. This year alone, they have learned over 35 pieces!
My Project
My dance class has come so far in the two short years it's been in existence. We are desperately in need of curtains for our performances. Curtains will allow us to have a backstage area when we perform in the gym, keep the audiences from being distracted, give our performances a more uniform look, and allow for great videos and pictures to be taken.
The kids feel more confident when they have the proper materials needed to perform their best!
Dancing with no backdrop, no costumes, and bad music mixes make them feel as though they are not taken seriously. I want to create an environment that allows them to be confident in what they do, knowing they have what they need to succeed! Our dance program is in need of many things, but first and foremost, we need curtains to create a professional look for our biannual performances.
These curtains can be used between the high school and middle school recitals, speaking events, future dance videos, dance tutorials, projects in class, and much more! We have graciously been able to borrow curtains in the past, but that option will not always be available. Your help in getting us these curtains will benefit the dance program tremendously.
