Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I devoted the first 10 years of my teaching career to working with 4-year-olds, but last year I taught 4th grade, and I'm loving it! It was a little scary at first because of the big jump, but, without a doubt, there are needs in every classroom!
Student demographics vary.
The top one is English Language Learners, and many students come from low social economic status, single parent, guardian households. Most of these kids have no ideas or aspirations yet as to what they want in life, so they settle for what they see in their daily life.
Most of these students will be the first ones in their families to pursue a higher education. It is my duty to instill that desire within them to pursue their dream. These students have embraced the importance and the impact education can have in their lives.
My students are very humble, hardworking, and responsible individuals who should have the same learning opportunities as everyone else. Most of the time, lack of proper resources limits these opportunities. As an educator, I feel that it is our responsibility to prepare and equip students with the proper tools to be successful in real life!
My Project
Cursive has been forgotten about for these past few years! Our district has adopted a Language Arts curriculum that brings back cursive to students! Being a PK teacher for so many years has taught me that learning writing needs to be fun and engaging for students to keep at it and persevere even if they are failing.
I am asking for your help in obtaining writing paper, pens and Vis-a-Vis markers to practice writing cursive.
Students will practice letter strokes on transparencies, and they will need the Vis-a-Vis markers for that. Once they are ready, they can begin practicing on writing paper using their weekly words. Why not even write their composition in this format? Pens will be utilized in their center areas.
